With over thirty years in the field of education, Jonathan C. Erwin, M.A., has been a middle and high school English teacher, professional development specialist, college professor, and director of a federally funded character education program. His published books include The Classroom of Choice (ASCD 2004), Inspiring the Best in Students (ASCD 2010) The School Climate Solution (Free Spirit Press, 2016). He has extensive experience in K-12 public, private, and charter urban schools as well as schools in rural and suburban settings.
Jon is an independent educational consultant, a senior faculty member of The William Glasser Institute, and a former instructor for the Bureau of Education and Research (BER). Jon’s work focuses on providing research-based teaching, managing, counseling, and approaches that increase intrinsic motivation and help children and adolescents develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
His most recent work involves creating a school and classroom climate culture based on:

- Positive, Trusting Relationships
- Engaging Student-Centered Instruction
- Social-Emotional Learning (Including Mindset and Grit)
Jon's energetic, interactive, and humor-filled seminars provide teachers and school leaders with PRACTICAL tools and strategies they can use immediately to improve student learning, behavior, and achievement.
On a personal note, Jon is a father of two, 29-year-old third-grade teacher Nathan, and 11-year-old daugher Laena. His interests include martial arts, playing drums, jogging, reading, and traveling.
